Back Ground of the Department

In fact, Aesthetics and physical education subject has the power to change the physical, mental, economic and social wellbeing of the society. Following this reality the department opened in the year———– to teach qualified elementary teachers. The teaching-learning process started by ——–male and ———female instructors with ——students. At the beginning the department admitted only regular and summer program students but ——— years later extension program also opened. Nowadays, this department has been admitting all program trainees and ensures quality education in our region throughout a year. Since this department opened in Gondar College of teachers’ education, more than 150 total numbers of qualified elementary teachers had been graduated every year in physical education, art and music fields of study.

Aesthetics and physical education department will need to:-

Develop the mental, motor and outlooks of students throughout their life.
Serve students & societies by loyally and transparency using their knowledge and skill.
Stand jointly with other college staff members to the development of our college.
Produce capable professionals through implementing theoretical and practical courses to incubate qualified next generation manpower’s in their work career.

The basic values of Aesthetics and physical education department are producing qualified manpower’s in the teaching profession in all regular, extension and summer education program. Thus, to maintain the mental, physical and social wellbeing of the society all Physical education, Art and Music courses have been a vital role. Moreover, the following are some of the values of our department.

To enhance & follow academic achievements of all program trainees.
To monitor the activities of our department staff members actively.
To submit the necessary reporting to the concerning body on time.
To propose department annual plan and implement all activities based on the plan throughout a year.
To spend students and college society’s leisure time in the appropriate place via preparing appropriate recreational areas.
To help college staff members to participate in the sports arena and improve their music and Art skills.
To help students and college societies to improve working capacity and maintaining their health through performing sport and music activities.

Department Entry Requirements

For regular and summer students, the department entry requirements depend on the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Ministry of Education EGCLCE cutting points. But for extension students our department also used practical abilities as an entry requirement in addition to theoretical academic potential of students in each unit per year.

The Goals/Objectives of Department

To develop students mental, motor and outlooks throughout their life.
To serve the societies by loyally and transparency using social community service.
To joint with other college department members to the improvement of our students academic result.
To produce capable professionals through qualified theoretical and practical teaching-learning processes.
To help students and college staff members to improve working capacity and maintaining their health through performing sport and music activities.
To spend students and college society’s leisure time in the appropriate place via preparing appropriate recreational areas.

Department Major Achievements

Even though the numbers of researchers are too few, our department staff members conducted studies to solve the challenges of our college and the community.
Intramural sort tournaments held every year between regular and extension students and awarded trophy to the winner team.
Art gallery exhibitions and harmonious entertainments held.
Music experts involved when literatures present in our college.
Trainee’s grade scored in 2011 E.C was a best achievement in all units of our department.
The teaching-learning process held at a best manner & instructors of our department working all activities by their consent without others interference.
All our department staff members participating in college co-curricular activities.
Majority of our department teachers engaged in community services every year.
If instruction time lost by several reasons, all staff members compensate it soon.

Community Services

In Aesthetics and Physical education department, we have been serving the community every year to fill the knowledge, skill and facility gaps of elementary school teachers. Hence, since community service started in our college, elementary school teachers brief training, handbooks, balls, cultural music instruments, artistic teaching aids and other related teaching materials in each unit offered to junior and elementary schools that are found in & around Gondar city.
