GCTE Mathematics Department Research Situation
As we know the purpose of educational research is to develop new knowledge about the teaching-
learning situation to improve educational practice. Educational research can address the following
variables:
- Learning: How do student’s best learn various subjects?
- Teaching: What are the best teaching practices to foster student achievement?
- Motivation: What are the best practices for teachers to motivate their students to achieve?
- Development: How do children and adults change over time, including their cognitive, social,
and emotional skills?
- Classroom management: What classroom or school practices make the classroom optimal for
student learning?
Objective
- Provides teachers the opportunity to improve their teaching and make teaching learning
process effective.
- Offers teacher the opportunity to investigate question and concerns relates to their teaching
practice and their students learning.
Therefore, GCTE mathematics department performs a total of 12 research papers in the last
five consecutive years (2007-2011) E.C as depicted in the table below.

GCTE Mathematics Department Community Service of the department
GCTE mathematics department
- Creates a better nation for the future by enhancing the quality of education and the capacity of school teachers in the field of mathematics nearby GCTE.
- Assist elementary school mathematics teachers with the need to identify gaps in mathematics textbooks in elementary schools.
- Filling the gap of elementary school mathematics teacher by different training
- Provide computer training and repair of damaged computers especially for school directors.
- Every year GCTE mathematics department gives a training and support elementary schools by different mathematical tools.
GCTE Mathematics Department Major Achievements
- Giving a training about 187 elementary school mathematics teachers by cooperating with Save the children NGO.
- Preparing seminars and workshops per month is good culture for the department.
GCTE Mathematics Department Continuous professional development (CPD)
As we understand CPD stands for continuing Professional Development. It refers to the process of tracking and documenting the skills, knowledge and experience that you gain both formally and informally as you work, beyond any initial training. It’s a record of what you experience, learn and then apply. The term is generally used to mean a physical folder or portfolio documenting our development as a professional. Continuing professional development (CPD) courses help teachers and school staff to up-skill and become confident in new areas of the curriculum and teaching concepts
Main Objectives of the program
- To up-to-date in teachers’ career with maintaining knowledge and skills.
- To support future professional development with enhancing and broadening capabilities.
- To develops personal qualities necessary to execute professional and technical duties in an ethical manner.
- Reinforce existing skills, as well as learning new ones that aren’t covered during teacher
- allow teachersto build on their interaction skills and learn strategies for helping these pupils to achieve their full potential
- open up further development needs and demonstrate your professional standing to clients and employers
Some areas or topics of CPD in our Department are
- educational theory to conceptualize the process of developing a command of mathematics
- Developing and evaluating a range of teaching methods and approaches and associated materials
- Developing our own mathematics skills to standards required in subject specifications
- Demonstrating threshold standards of quality and consistency of practice in mathematics
- Identifying areas of your practice which can be improved, researching through literature and consulting with tutors, mentors and colleagues as a means to improve those areas
- Enhancing your teaching through constructive use of reflection and feedback from students, colleagues, tutors and mentors.
